How long must your passport be valid for Thailand?
At least six months after the day you arrive, plus one blank page. A passport with five months left is refused even though it has not expired — and you will usually be stopped at check-in, before you ever reach a Thai border officer.

“To enter Thailand, your passport must have an ‘expiry date’ at least 6 months after the date you arrive and have at least 1 blank page.”
Check your own passport against this rule
This check runs entirely in your browser. Your dates are not sent anywhere.
Six months from arrival, not from departure
The count starts on the day you land, not the day you fly home. On a two-week holiday the difference is trivial. On a two-month stay it is not: a passport that satisfies "six months from arrival" has only four months left by the time you leave, and a passport that would satisfy "six months from departure" needs eight months at the start.
Thailand uses the first of those. Check your expiry date against your arrival date.
The blank page requirement
One blank page, for the entry stamp. This is a separate condition from the expiry date and it is checked separately — a passport with two years left and no space in it does not meet the requirement.
Pages marked for amendments or endorsements do not count. If your passport is heavily stamped, look at it properly before you travel rather than assuming.
Who actually checks, and when
Your airline. Carriers are liable for flying passengers who are then refused entry, so they check passport validity at check-in and deny boarding if it fails. This is why "I will sort it when I get there" does not work: you will not get there.
It also means the check happens hours before departure, in your home airport, at the point where nothing can be fixed.
What to do if you are short
Renew before you travel, and start now rather than closer to the date. Routine renewal takes weeks in most countries and the wait grows sharply in the months before peak season.
If you have already booked and the timing is tight, ask your passport authority whether it offers an expedited or emergency appointment. Most do, at a higher fee. Do not rely on being able to explain the situation at the airport — the airline has no discretion here.
